You Light Up My Life

I am really working on my distressing and inking techniques, as is evident in what I made today.

I made a center step card for a challenge at SVG Attic (see the forum or Jessica's Crop Corner for rules) using the lighthouse from their Cape Cod collection.  I am so extremely proud of this card!  I have been thinking about this project for a few days and how I was going to tackle it.  I couldn't wait to make it.

This was my first time ever making a step card.  I was browsing blogs this morning (while I was supposed to be at the gym) and happened upon a tutorial for this (don't worry I went to the gym after).  It looks little complicated to make but it was really easy.

I used paper from a stack I bought today at Joann's for half off.  It's the Linen Closet pack from DCWV. 

I'm so glad I bought the Tim Holtz' ink blender.  It blends and spreads the ink so well.  The blender I was using before wasn't cutting it for me.  And as you can tell, I inked the pop out of that card!

One thing I think I may need is the Zutter paper distresser.  Distrezz It All, I think is what it's called (don't quote me on that).  I am using a hand held distresser and it takes some time to make the edges just right.  I sometimes bend the paper doing it.  No bueno ("no good" in Spanish).  With the Zutter machine you stick it in an zoop it's done!  Agh, I better stop talking about toys...my husband barely OK'd the Silhouette and here I am wanting MORE! 

So I am thinking this is my favorite card I have ever made.  I can't stop looking at it.  Corny, I know!

"I Do"

I had to make a last minute card for a wedding I was going to the other day.  OK, I have known about the wedding for some time now but as usual I procrastinated.  Good thing I had the day off from work on Friday because I was able to put my brain to work first thing in the morning before it got dull and tired.

In this card I used SVG files from one of my favorite shops, SVG Cuts.  I used the Kate's Silhouette SVG kit to create this simple yet beautiful "I Do" card.  I really love how it turned out.

I used a paper pack I bought at Target in, get this, the dollar bin!  I should have bought more than one pack but I think it's too late now.  They have sold out in my local Targets.  The colors are subtle yet gorgeous and a bit different than the traditional black and white you think of when the word "wedding" pops into your head.  I added a swirl embossed design to the white wedding dress to add a touch of elegance.  The flowers were made from a hand punch I never thought I would have any use for.  Boy was I wrong!  It's saved my life a few times in my time of need.  I made the flowers and the sentiment red to kind of off set the grays and blues of the card.  It adds a pop of color to the card.

Sitting In A Tree

An idea came to me while I was looking through a magazine for inspiration, use printed images on cards.  I have seen this before on other cards and other papercrafts but I wasn't sure it's something I wanted to start doing.  I kind of felt like it was cheating since I was using an already made picture rather than me stamping it, coloring it, drawing it, or crafting it out of paper.  I decided to give it a shot anyway just to see what I can create and Sitting in a Tree is it!  Take a gander.

Soul Mates

After making this card I realized how printing images onto cardstock opens up a whole new world for my card making.  It's pretty exciting.  So far this is the only card I have made using this technique.  Aside from printing the image another technique I used is embossing.  I dry embossed the brown mat that is behind the image and inked the edges of the white cardstock.

Last minute Valentine's

Oops, I thought I was all set.  It turns out my daughter didn't have enough of the store bought Valentine's to pass out to her class so I either had to go out and buy more or be creative.  I decided to be creative.  Plus I really didn't feel like getting ready to go out.

I used the free Valentine Truffle file that SVG Cuts has posted on their site to make the cute candy truffle.  It kind of makes me want to head out and go to See's looking at all these!

  A few pictures show the cards before I added the glitter to the candy swirl.  I think the addition of glitter adds more to the card.  I am entering this project in SVG Cuts' Valentine challenge as well.
